Job Title: Associate Director of Digital Marketing

Reports To: Senior Director of Direct Marketing

Position Overview: The Associate Director of Digital Marketing is the digital development lead at PVA, responsible for PVA’s digital fundraising revenue. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to digital campaigns that support development, such as email marketing, online advertising, Search Engine Marketing and optimization, paid social media, and donation forms management. This position reports to the Senior Director, Direct Marketing, and manages a team of Digital experts.

The Associate Director of Digital Marketing assists with developing and manages the digital development budget, writes and negotiates Master Services Agreements and Statements of Work, and manages multiple agencies and contractors to meet digital marketing needs. This role is responsible for proactively exploring and adopting new technologies, strategies, and timely best practices to proactively develop high-ROI digital revenue streams. The Associate Director of Digital Marketing leads digital strategy, optimizes campaigns, and drives donor engagement across digital channels and must be committed to achieving measurable fundraising results.

Position responsibilities and duties:

  • Develop and drive a forward-looking strategic plan for PVA’s digital revenue.
  • Lead the digital fundraising strategy and execution for all development campaigns, partnering with Corporate Development, Major Gifts, and Direct Marketing experts to execute effective strategies to ensure donor stewardship and maximize ROI for PVA.
  • Oversee digital agency to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPI) on time and on budget.
  • Lead planning and implementation of all digital fundraising campaigns, ensuring cost efficiency and high conversion rates.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, create annual and long-term digital fundraising strategy.
  • Help colleagues and direct reports understand strategy, map and achieve goals, and expand the digital fundraising program.
  • Utilize testing, audience segmentation, and analytics to optimize performance.
  • Collaborate with creative and content teams to develop compelling digital assets.
  • Explore and implement relevant new technologies to improve PVA’s return on investment and donor engagement.
  • Regularly report digital analytics to the Development Teams to inform ongoing and future campaigns.
  • Report to the Executive Committee on digital fundraising performance, based on determined KPIs.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to build strategic webpages for PVA development.
  • Collaborate with the Finance and Data Teams to implement new payment platforms and digital fundraising, marketing and communications tools such as Classy, PayPal, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, FormAssembly, Springboard, Amazon.com, SurveyMonkey.com, CrazyEgg, and Sprout Social.
  • Deeply understand PVA’s audiences and build meaningful lifecycle journeys that keep them engaged.
  • Always pursue “better”, seeking out opportunities to improve PVA’s online brand, increase engagement, and build stronger loyalty with donor audiences over their lifecycle.
  • Empower direct reports to manage their own workloads, discover and proactively pursue opportunities to improve PVA’s fundraising, and set a path for each direct report’s career growth.
  • Build and/or maintain internal team expertise to ensure effective oversight of third-party vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field.
  • Expertise in paid media, SEO, SEM, social media, email marketing, content marketing, website optimization, and analytics.
  • Experience managing budgets, digital agencies, and multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Minimum five years of experience managing digital fundraising campaigns with multiple channels of engagement with a focus on fundraising goals.
  • Minimum five years’ experience managing direct reports with a proven track record of empowering and improving their skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, and automation tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate across teams, set reasonable expectations, and produce quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to get to the heart of issues, prioritize workload, and navigate competing requests from PVA development departments to find compromises.
  • Clear communicator with ability to manage third-party vendors in a professional, timely way while holding those vendors accountable to ambitious goals.
  • Deep understanding of KPIs and the technical skills to measure them for accurate and meaningful reporting to the Development Team and Executive Committee.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, ability to manage data in various formats and transfer between systems, build emails, create automated journeys and understand the payment platforms and the back-end data mapping required.
  • Expert in the digital landscape; stays on top of digital marketing trends, as well as competitor initiatives and results.
  • Expertise in increasing donor value, including one-time donor gift amounts and sustainer lifecycles.
  • Understanding of audience segmentation and donor lifecycle.
  • Embraces change, uses data and analytics to drive continuous learning and innovation.
  • Ability to manage competing projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
